Bristol Hospice has purchased Hope Hospice & Palliative Care for an undisclosed amount, expanding its geographic footprint in the South.
Established in 2020, Hope Hospice & Palliative Care serves patients across the region of Memphis, Tennessee. The hospice and palliative care provider has built a strong, trusted reputation for high quality across these communities, said Bristol Hospice President and CEO Alex Mauricio.
The acquisition represents an opportunity to preserve and expand sustainable access, Mauricio indicated.
“Our current Southeastern footprint touches every corner of Tennessee, so the focus to enter the state over the last year reached a high,” Mauricio told Hospice News in an email. “Memphis is such a great community that we are thrilled to be serving and will root ourselves immediately.”
Founded in 2006, Bristol Hospice is a portfolio company of the private equity firm Webster Equity Partners. The company provides adult and pediatric hospice, as well as palliative care across upwards of 80 locations in roughly 25 states. Bristol Hospice also offers veterans, memory, sleep and respiratory care programs.
The hospice provider entered the Mississippi market with its 2024 acquisition of Mid-Delta Hospice. The transaction expanded Bristol Hospice’s reach near the border of Tennessee, with more staff and referral sources in this region.
Acquiring Hope Hospice & Palliative Care allows for the ability to deepen community relationships that will be “highly complementary,” Mauricio told Hospice News. The new partnership was launched through a shared vision for patient-centered growth that prioritizes clinical excellence and care continuity, he said.
Swelling aging populations in Tennessee are driving demand for hospice and palliative care. Seniors 65 and older represent 17.7% of the state’s overall population, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
“Tennessee is a state that has a ton of need not only from a patient care standpoint, but [also in] quality of care,” Mauricio told Hospice News. “Every time I have visited, I sit across from key stakeholders all throughout the state, whether that’s patients and families, or providers that are in need of finding quality hospices. The part that always comes up in conversation is that there is not just inconsistency on finding hospices that will deliver timely care to patients both metro and rural, but also finding hospices that have a strong reputation for the care they are delivering.”
Hope Hospice & Palliative Care’s interdisciplinary care teams will continue to serve patients and families post-acquisition.
Care continuity and community trust were pivotal points to consider in the transaction, according to Pat Sherman, founder and CEO of Hope Hospice & Palliative Care.
