Legacy Acquires HomeCare Hospice

Legacy Hospice has acquired Mississippi-based HomeCare Hospice for an undisclosed sum.

HomeCare Hospice operates four locations that cover most of its home state. The deal expands Legacy’s footprint in the South. In addition to Mississippi, the company has a presence in seven states. Legacy is a portfolio company of the private equity firm Prairie Capital.

“With this acquisition, Legacy Hospice will now be able to offer a wider range of hospice services to clients in the state of Mississippi and surrounding areas,” the company indicated in a statement. “The addition of HomeCare Hospice to our network will allow us to better serve our community and meet the growing needs of patients in need of compassionate end-of-life care.”

Mississippi’s senior population is the fastest growing age group in the state, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. By 2023, the bureau estimates that more than a quarter of the state’s residents will be older than 60, an increase of close to 40% since 2012.

About 19,000 Medicare beneficiaries elected hospice in the state last year, according to the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

This is Legacy’s second deal in just over a year. In March 2023, the company purchased Safe Harbor Hospice in southeastern Missouri. Financial terms were confidential.
