Regional Hospice, Nuvance Partner on New Inpatient Unit; Pathways Opens GIP Center

Connecticut-based Regional Hospice has opened an inpatient unit at New Milford Hospital in partnership with the health system Nuvance Health. The health system has also designated Regional as its preferred hospice provider in its home state.

The center will house hospice patients who qualify for general inpatient care in two renovated private suites where they will receive 24/7 care from Regional’s interdisciplinary hospice teams in addition to specially trained hospital clinicians.

“We are pleased to be returning to a model of collaborative care with Nuvance, which we had years ago in the community,” Cynthia Emiry Roy, president and CEO of Regional Hospice, said in a press release. “We are extremely proud of the exceptional care we provide patients in our Danbury-based Center for Comfort Care & Healing and are thrilled to extend our services further into the community.”

The suites will also include private spaces for families and loved ones to spend quality time with patients.

“Relationships such as this one with Regional Hospice allow for the most compassionate, respectful and efficient care for those at the end of their lives,” Sharon Adams, president of Danbury and New Milford Hospitals, said in the release. “It’s one more way we are innovating, partnering and ultimately improving how we care for our patients no matter the stage of health or illness.”

The standalone, 12-bed center took 13 months to build, and is being financed by the nonprofit’s $8 million capital campaign.

“Today is the culmination of 15 years of dreaming and hoping and planning,” Nate Lamkin, president of Pathways, said at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. “It took a village of people’s hard work and generosity.”

The 15,000-foot center features rooms large enough to accommodate the patient and one or two family members for overnight stays. Each room is equipped with a skylight and exterior windows.

The hospice designed the unit with room to grow. The facility has the capacity to expand to 18-beds, up from the current 12.

Jet Health is backed by the private equity firms SV Health Investors and Health Enterprise Partners. The new location will offer skilled nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and home health aides.

“The growth Jet Health and its affiliated entities experienced in Albuquerque to date, along with feedback from referral sources in Santa Fe as well as local market demand and the need for the types of services we bring to the local community, prompted the opening of our new Klarus Home Health,” Jet Health CEO Stacie Bratcher said in a statement. “We will be looking to recruit several additional health care professionals to this office as we expand our reach and service area.”

Armando De Aguero, previously regional director of business development for Northern New Mexico at Klarus, will serve as executive director of the de novo, which aims to double its workforce during the next six months.
