Bristol Names Nurse Melissa Broadway as New Chief Clinical Officer

Bristol Hospice has appointed Melissa Broadway as its new chief clinical officer.

A registered nurse, Broadway was most recently the chief operating officer of hospice for Bayada Healthcare. At Bayada, she oversaw hospice operations in 11 states, including five divisions of the company.

“Having Melissa join the Bristol family represents a great day for our patients, families and employees nationwide,” Bristol CEO Alex Mauricio said in a statement. “Melissa represents everything we have been building here at Bristol, and she brings a long track record of success as one of the finest hospice leaders I have had the privilege of serving with.”

Based in Salt Lake City, Bristol Hospice is a portfolio company of the private equity firm Webster Equity Partners. The company employs more than 3,000 staff in more than 76 locations across 18 states.

Broadway entered the hospice field as a bedside nurse in 2011 at a Texas location of Gentiva-Kindred Hospice. She worked her way up to become executive director of the agency, where she is credited with achieving substantial growth, according to a Bristol press release.

Prior to Bayada, she served in leadership roles in several organizations, including vice president positions at Gentiva-Kindred, Amedisys (NASDAQ: AMED) and Heart to Heart Hospice.

Broadway’s appointment is the latest leadership change for Bristol.

Mauricio ascended to the CEO position in February after serving as the company’s president and chief strategy officer. The company’s former top executive, Hyrum Kirton, who is now a board member.

“She is a true advocate for the hospice benefit,” Mauricio said of Broadway. “And I couldn’t be more thrilled to have her leadership here with us at Bristol.”
