VNA Health Group CEO Steve Landers to Leave Company, Take Helm at Hebrew SeniorLife

Dr. Steve Landers, CEO of VNA Health Group, is leaving the company in July and will become the top executive for the Boston-based health system Hebrew SeniorLife.

Landers succeeded Louis J. Woolf upon his retirement. Woolf has led Hebrew SeniorLife for 14 years.

Hebrew SeniorLife is affiliated with Harvard Medical School and serves more than 3,000 seniors in the Boston metropolitan area. The integrated health system includes health care services and senior living facilities as well as research and teaching.

“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Steve Landers as the new president and CEO of Hebrew SeniorLife,” Hebrew SeniorLife Board Chair Melissa Tearney said in a statement. “The outstanding depth of his experiences and accomplishments as a leader within a variety of nonprofit and academic health care settings makes him the ideal person to lead Hebrew SeniorLife in its mission to empower seniors to live their best lives.”

Landers, a physician certified in family, geriatric and hospice and palliative medicine, has been president and CEO of VNA Health Group since 2012.

He is also a clinical associate professor of family medicine and community health at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Previously, he worked at Cleveland Clinic in an administrative role as well as a member of the medical staff.

VNA Health Group is a multi-state provider of home health, hospice, primary care and public health services, among others. The organization’s clinic conducts more than 1 million home visits to patients annually and maintains partnerships and joint ventures with a range of providers, including home-visiting physician companies, palliative medicine physician services, federally qualified community health centers and LGBTQ+ health services.

At VNA, Landers led a staff of 2,400 who serve an average daily census of more than 12,000 patients. During his tenure, the organization’s revenues more than doubled. VNA Health also launched a digital- and mobile health-focused health institute.
