Home health and hospice provider The Care Team has purchased Allentown, Pa.-based Arcadia Hospice for an undisclosed amount. The company views the acquisition as an important foothold as it seeks to build national scale.
The Care Team is a portfolio company of the Denver-based private equity firm Revelstoke Capital Partners. In addition to hospice care, The Care Team provides in-home nursing services, physical therapy, home health care and speech and occupational therapies. The company also employs medical social workers.
“The Care Team and Arcadia share similar cultures and a strong commitment to patient care, clinical excellence and compliance. We see a tremendous opportunity in combining the strengths and capabilities of both companies and expanding into Pennsylvania,” said Care Team Founder and CEO Jason Laing.
This transaction marks the company’s second acquisition since Revelstoke’s initial investment in Oct. 2021. The Care Team acquired InTeliCare Home Health & Hospice in Michigan in Dec. 2020. Financial terms of that deal were confidential. The company also operates locations in Texas.
Revelstoke currently manages $2.3 billion. Since the firm’s founding in 2013, it has completed 74 acquisitions, including 18 platform companies and 56 add-ons.
The U.S. Census Bureau reported in 2009 that the Pennsylvania senior population is likely to grow more rapidly than other components of the population. The number of seniors 60 and older in Pennsylvania during 2012 reached an estimated 2.7 million, or 21.3% of the state’s population. This is projected to grow to 27.5% by 2030.
Hospice utilization among Medicare decedents in Pennsylvania was 49.3% in 2018, just under the national average of 50.7%, according to the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization.
“Since we invested in The Care Team, the company has made significant investments in the corporate infrastructure to build additional scale and improve patient care,” said Russ Cassella, managing partner at Revelstoke. “We have enjoyed a strong partnership with [The Care Team’s] management and look forward to working with them on the expansion into southeastern Pennsylvania.”
