Addus Partners with Homecare Homebase on Integrated EMR Solution

Addus HomeCare Corp. (NASDAQ: ADUS) is partnering with software company Homecare Homebase to develop an integrated electronic health record (EHR) solution that would manage patient documentation across the provider’s continuum of post-acute care.

Addus provides hospice, home health, and personal care services to nearly 44,000 patients through 215 locations in 25 states. The new platform they are developing with Homecare Homebase is designed to provide a single-source record of patients’ care and enable smoother transitions from one setting to another, such as from home health care to hospice.

“Our clients have changing needs at different points in their care journey,”  said Mike Wattenbarger, chief information officer at Addus. “We were looking for one integrated platform that could support all of our services.”

The new system will be compatible with CellTrack, the electronic visit verification platform that Addus currently uses. Addus expects the solution to optimize their scheduling, streamline authorization management, track visit verification compliance, improve patient outcomes and simplify billing and revenue cycle management processes, according to Wattenbarger.

Addus and Homecare Homebase expect to begin production on the solution in the early months of 2022.

Addus, founded as a personal care company, has been making a larger push into the hospice space. Last year, the company acquired private-equity backed Queen City Hospice and its affiliate Miracle City Hospice for a cash purchase price of $192 million. Queen City was previously a portfolio company of the private equity firm Stonehenge Partners.

Addus’ current growth strategy focuses on co-locating hospice and home health assets in markets in which they already have a substantial presence for their personal care business. The company completed three hospice acquisitions during 2020, expected to generate total annual revenues of $82 million.

Homecare Homebase is a Dallas-based software company that develops hosted, cloud-based solutions focused on health care providers that see patients in their homes. Founded in 1999, Homecare Homebase is now a portfolio company of Hearst Health.

“We’re thrilled to be working with Addus and CellTrak to build technology that can truly focus on all home-based care,” Scott Pattillo, chief strategy officer for Homecare Homebase, said. We expect this partnership not only to empower exceptional patient care, but also to add greater value for our growing user base of agency customers by enabling them to extend visibility in their relationships with clients across the health care continuum.”
