Hospice Pharmacy DeliverCareRx Enters Arizona Market

Based outside of Chicago, the hospice pharmacy service DeliverCareRx has expanded its footprint with a new facility in Tempe, Ariz. Set to open in Jan. 2021, the location will make home deliveries and provide hospice pharmacy services throughout the state and in the Southwestern United States.

The new Arizona facility is part of DeliverCareRx’s growth strategy to expand its reach, complementing its existing service regions in Tampa, Fla., and the Chicago metropolitan region. De novos this past summer added to the company’s footprint along the West Coast and the Northeastern regions, with locations sprouting up in southern New Jersey and Livermore, Calif.

“DeliverCareRx is very excited to open our new state-of-the art pharmacy in Tempe, solely specialized on serving hospices and hospice patients,” said the company’s President and CEO Dave Krishna. “The DeliverCareRx home delivery and inpatient unit models and our [pharmacy benefit management] partnership have proven to be a game changer for hospices throughout the country. The greater Phoenix market requires high-quality hospice pharmacy services with same-day delivery, and we could not be happier bringing our proven best in class pharmacy offering to the hospices of Arizona and the entire Southwestern United States.”

Arizona ranks third in the nation in hospice utilization. More than 58% of Medicare descendants in the state elected hospice during 2018, according to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Association.

About 18% of the state’s population is 65 and older per the U.S. Census Bureau. The Arizona Department of Health Services reported that this number is expected to increase to an estimated 21% by 2050 as the age structure of the populations shifts.

In addition to medication delivery, the new DeliverCareRx Arizona location will provide hospices with automated and non-automated inpatient unit solutions, pre-filled syringes and 24/7 pharmacy consulting.

The company has plans for additional locations in the pipeline. DeliverCareRx’s exclusive partnership with one of the country’s largest hospice pharmacy providers, Montgomery, Ala.-based Optum Health Pharmacy Services, additionally plays a key role in the company’s growth.

“Our partnership with DeliverCareRx continues to support our strategic growth plans and how we service our hospice partners and their patients in the Southwestern United States,” said Jason Kimbrel, vice president of hospice services for Optum Hospice Pharmacy Services. “We understand this market requires a high-touch pharmacy, and the opening of this new location significantly supports our goal of providing hospice patients with easy access to their medications and overall convenience.”
