Hospice provider Trustbridge, operating in Broward and Palm Beach counties in Florida, has opened a new new medical distribution facility that will enable the hospice to expand its operations and expedite delivery of supplies and equipment to patients.
The facility will serve as a satellite location to a larger, existing distribution center in Palm Beach County. The hospice will use the new center to distribute items such as beds, lift chairs, wheelchairs, oxygen equipment and other materials that many hospice patients need.
“This has been a long-term desire for Trustbridge,” said David Fielding, CEO of Trustbridge. “Our team began working towards this goal years ago after asking ourselves how we can provide best in class service to our patients in Broward County.”
Trustbridge expects the new facility to enable them to improve response times for patients in need of equipment. The hospice is hiring 12 new delivery staff as well as purchasing five new trucks that will operate out of the new location.
Demand for hospice care is rising in Florida. The proportion of Florida’s population that is 60 and older is growing more rapidly than other components of the population. An estimated 32.5% of Florida’s population will be 60 and older by the year 2030, up 34% from 2012, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Florida ranks third in the nation for hospice utilization with 57.9% of Medicare decedents electing hospice in 2018. Utah leads the nation at 59.4%, with Arizona in the second spot at 59.2%.
Trustbridge was established in 2014 via the merger of three providers, Hospice of Palm Beach County, Hospice by the Sea, and Hospice of Broward County. In addition to hospice care, Trustbridge offers palliative medicine, caregiver support services and bereavement programs.
