Bristol Hospice has acquired the Utah and California locations of Sojourn Hospice & Palliative Care, a Healthy Living Network company, for an undisclosed amount. Bristol Hospice is a portfolio company of the investment firm Webster Equity Partners.
The acquired operations include eight Sojourn locations that will rebrand as Bristol Hospice. As part of the transaction, Sojourn’s parent company the Healthy Living Network absorbed Bristol’s home health operations in Salt Lake City and Porterville, Calif.

Bristol has completed nine acquisitions since Webster Equity Partners purchased the company in 2017 for $70 million. Bristol has made three acquisitions this year, including New Dawn Hospice near Dallas in Texas for an undisclosed sum.
Bristol operates 27 locations in eight states under the brands Bristol Hospice, Optimal Health Services and Suncrest Hospice of Colorado.

Hospice utilization runs high in the markets in which Sojourn operates. Utah has the highest utilization rate in the nation among Medicare decedents at 59.4%, according to the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization. Utilization in California hovers around 42.5%.
